OVER 150 PLAYERS STORM KATSINA WEDNESDAY

More than 150 Badminton Players Across the Country have Indicated Their Interest to play in the The 1ST Katsina Golden Star National Badminton championship.The four days tournament has brought joy to players in the country who have not played a National Championship over four years.

In a chat with www.badmintonnigeria.org Kaduna state Badminton player Peace Orji hailed the vision of the New board led by Francis Orbih stating that it is an indication to bring Badminton back to where it should be in Nigeria.

“It’s a bold move by the Francis Orbih led board to have two championships this month.Many players have stopped playing the game but this will bring fresh hope for Badminton in Nigeria”

Lagos based Opeyori Anu expressed excitement at the forthcoming championships.

“The last time we hosted a championship was 2013 in Abuja and since then nothing has come up. Now we have not just one but two championships this month which makes it more exciting than ever. More tournaments ,more experience to gather and more motivation for the Nation as a whole “he concluded

One of the exciting players to watch in the country Godwin Olofua says he can’t wait to arrive Katsina for the Championship which starts on Wednesday.Olofua is however motivated by the prospect of playing in front of his family and friends when the Mutual Benefits Assurance backed Lagos Badminton National championship holds between the 15th and 18th of November. The Lagos based player who is likened to former world’s number one ranked player Chong Wei of Malaysia because of his playing style says he has been preparing day and night for the championships.

“I am excited because what we have been praying for as players is championships like these. Since we have not had National championships in Nigeria since 2013 it has affected the players psychologically. I must commend the board led by Francis Orbih for coming up with the 1st Katsina Golden star National championship and the 1st Mutual Benefits 2017 assurance Badminton championship which will hold in Lagos”.

Meanwhile, Francis Orbih President Badminton Federation of Nigeria who arrived katsina on Sunday in a chat with www.badmintonnigeria.org assured competitors ,officials and fans who will be attending the four day event of adequate security.

“I want to assure everyone who will be travelling to Katsina leaving their comfort zone from different parts of the country to expect the best of hospitality. He also urged fans to bring with them their family members to watch the 1st Katsina Golden star Nation al Badminton championship from Wednesday the 8th to Saturday 11th of November”. He also stated that one of the highlights of these tournaments is that for the first time in the history of Badminton,registration of players is being done online.

Over two million six hundred and seventy thousand Naira is available for winners in the 1st Katsina Golden star National Badminton Championship.
