The Nigeria National Badminton Team in Algeria will later tonight play Uganda and Sychelles in continuation of the ongoing All Africa Men’s and women’s championship in Algeria. Team Nigeria got off the mark on a winning note at the ongoing All Africa Men and women’s Team championship silencing the host and the crowd in the womens’s category and the Men edged out another North African side Morocco.The Team which was in Camp in Katsina for about a month showed they were adequately prepared for the championship with their dominant display.
In the Men’s category on Monday night Africa’s Number 3 ranked player and Nigeria no 1 Clement Krobapor came from a set down to beat Bilal Etharab of Morocco 12-21 , 21-16, 21-13 .Anuoluwapo Opeyori who is ranked 9th in Africa humiliated Ahmed Amine in straight sets 21-1 , 21-6 in 18 minutes. Godwin Olufua who played against Anuoluwapo in the Final of the Mutual benefits National Badminton Championship in Lagos made it 3 nil in favour of Nigeria as he defeated Yassine El Meiniss 21-12, 21-13.
In game four the duo of Enejoh Abah and Clement Krobapor beat the dou of Adam el Mernissi and Ahmed Amine 21-12, 21-3 while Habbeb Bello and Usman Isiaq made it 5-0 for Nigeria defeating Yassine El Mernissi and Bilal El harab 21-18, 21-13. In the Women’s category Africa and Nigeria No 1 ranked player Dorcas Adesokan led the way for a 4-1 victory for Team Nigeria who silenced the home fans after an emphatic victory.Dorcas beat Linda Mazri 21-12 , 21-16, Halla Bouksani drew level for Algeria when she beat Zainab Momoh 18-21, 21-12 ,21-10.Uchechukwu Deborah Ukeh put Nigeria ahead with a 21-12 ,21-8 victory over Malak Ouchefoun in 20 minutes. In the Doubles event any hopes held by the host were dashed as Dorcas Adesokan and Uchechukwu Deborah beat the duo of Linda Mazri and Dounia Naama 21-15, 21-7 while Zainab Momoh and Peace Orji completed the day’s victory for Nigeria winning Halla Bouksani and Malak Ouchefoun 22-20, 21-13.
Nigeria will play Uganda in the women’s category while Sychelles will battle the Nigeria men Badminton team.
