Team Nigeria Badminton has emerged grand winners of the 2019 African Games in Morocco with a total of eight (8) medals as the games come to a conclusion today, 30th August 2019.
The Nigeria Badminton contingent finished at the peak of the log with two gold medals, three Silvers and Bronzes each to end the meet as the number one team in Africa.
Africa and Nigeria number one, Anuoluwapo Opeyori won gold after seeing off tough challenge from number one seed from Mauritius, Georges Julien Paul in straight sets, 21-16/21-17 to clinch the top medal in the men’s singles category.
Nigeria had four representatives in five possible finals on Thursday evening but only managed gold in one – which is the men’s singles, while Nigeria women’s number one, Dorcas Adesokan surprisingly lost 21-19/21-18 in straight sets to South Africa’s Johanita Scholtz.
Nigeria had earlier won gold in the Mixed Team Event before the commencement of the individual events.
