Post Mauritius Badminton Championships and Coaching Course in Mauritius from 14th- 24th of August 2013

Nigeria participated at the All-African Senior Badminton Championship from 14th to 24th of August 2013.
The country played in the same group with Botswana, Egypt, Zambia, and Seychelles. It was smooth sailing for Nigeria as the players won all their group stage matches and topped the group.
The total victory the team registered in the group stage pitched them against the host country, Mauritius, in the semi-final. The Nigerian team thrashed Mauritius 4-1 to set up a final date with South Africa.
In the final played on Saturday, August 17, the Nigerian team worked their socks off against the highly competitive South Africans but lost 3-0 in all the final events- Men singles, Women singles, and Men doubles.
However, the Nigerian team was able to win the silver medal in the team event.
At the senior championship which started on August 18th, Nigeria featured in all the events and clinched a gold medal in the Women’s singles, silver in Men’s doubles and two bronze medals in men’s singles.
At the end of the tournament, the Nigerian team placed second behind South Africa in overall medals’ table. The host country, Mauritius and Seychelles were joint third.

Meanwhile, the Badminton World Federation organised the Badminton level 1 coaching course. Three Nigerians, Olatunji Kayode Nathaniel, Olaoluwa Fagbemi and Ibrahim Adamu participated in the course under the tutelage of the director of BWF coaches, Coach Ian Wright and Coach Ganjee.
