DAY 3 – LAGOS INTERNATIONAL BADMINTON CLASSICS: Turkey, India Dominate Finals

25 – year old Neslihan Yigit of Turkey in action during the Classics

In what has been termed a pure display of class from some of the world’s top players, India and debutants, Turkey have dominated the finals of the 2019 Lagos International Badminton Classics at the Molade Okoya Indoor Sports Hall in Surulere, Lagos State.

The Indian contingent who have unequivocally, been the most impressive side in this year’s classics have representatives in all of the categories asides the men’s singles ahead of Saturday’s finals.

Turkey who are making their debut at the Classics would have to face off stern challenge from India in the women’s double final however, it is going to be an all Turkish affair for the women’s singles which will see number one seed, Neslihan Yigit face off against 7th seed, Ozge Bayrak.

25-year old Yigit who is ranked 43rd in the Badminton World Federation rankings was unplayable against Ksenia Polikarpova, winning in straight sets 21-11, 21-10 as she cruised into this year’s final.

Ozge Bayrak had to see off fellow country woman, Aliye Demirbag 2-0 in major scores in a close encounter to set up a final with the number seed.

Classic top seed Misha Zilberman from Israel

In the Men’s single category, two-time Lagos International Badminton Classic champion, Misha Zilberman booked a place in this year’s final after defeating 4th seed, Sergey Sirant 21-19, 21-9.

While for 36 – year old Vietnamese, Tien Minh Nguyen, it was a tough battle gong through Teck Zhi Soo from Malaysia.

This year’s attendance at the Lagos International Classics has set the record, having 29 countries and over 130 players from across the world participating.
